The Lexington Board of Education met in regular session in the Robert H. Whitney Board of Education Meeting Room at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 17, 2019.  Mr. Robert Whitney, President, called the meeting to order. Roll was called by the Treasurer.

VISITORS / COMMUNICATIONS / RECOGNITIONS

Mr. Whitney welcome everyone to the meeting and asked if any visitors would like to be recognized to address the Board. Mr. Whitney also made various publications available.

Members of the Boy Scouts who were in attendance were recognized and introduced themselves and their leadres in attendance. They also share with the Board their current ranks within the Boy Scouts as they continue to complete the necessary requirements for advancement.

Student Representative Rhiannon Miller provided an update regarding various activities, throughout the District, including the following:

 Athletics and Student Activities

a. Baseball is currently sitting with an OCC record of 4-2 and overall 5-6;

b. Softball recently had a big win over Shelby in the MVD Classic as they are working on rebuilding their record with an OCC reocrd of 1-5 an dan overall record 4-7;

c. Boys' tennis has hosted two invtationals that have brought in talent from all over the State as they continue their excellent season in and out of the OCC;

d. Track and Field is off and running hoping to maintain the pace with the Division I schools. We recently hosted 19 schools on April 3rd for the 46th Annual Lexington Track and Field Invitational. ON May 10th, the team will travel to Ashland University for the OCC Championship;

e. Upcoming athletic events: On May 22nd at 7:00 a.m. in the high school auditorium, we will hold our Athletic End of the Season Awards, including the Purple Blanket, Cindy Barr Award, Terry McCammon Award,  3x4 winners, and other honors. The Lexington Athletic Boosters will also present the 2018 Girls' Cross Country Team and Kyle J. their State Championship rings.

Clubs

a. Key Club is collecting toiletries for the Harmony House through May 20th;

b. Leo Club started working on safety videos with Officer Davis to spread school safety awareness;

c. Three of the Academic Challenge's Varsity team members particpated in the WEWS (ABC/Cleveland?Channel 5) Academic Challenge tournament which will be aired April 27th at 10:00 a.m.;

d. French Club will be meeting in early May to enjoy the 2nd Annual Cheese Tasting. The attendees will be informed on the animlas and the milk that is used to create cheese as well as different regions from where cheese is produced all over the world.

e. Chess Club is holding open board meets once a week after school. Everyone is welcome to come play, watch, or even learn;

f. Math Club will be participating in a math league tournament at Sandusky Perkins on May 6th and will have a pizza party for all the members on April 29th.

Student Life and Academics

a. Underclassmen are currently in the middle of State testing which began last week;

b. Student Council is putting together a powder puff competition which will be held on Thursday, April 26th at the football field at 7:00 p.m. with proceeds to be donated to Catalyst and 33 Forever.

Future Events

a. Mock Crash is April 25th and Prom is May 4th;

b. May 2nd is the Orchestra Concert in the auditiorium at 7:30 p.m.;

c. May 6th is Choir Concert in the auditiorium at 7:30 p.m.;

d. May 14th is the Band Concert in the auditiorium at 7:30 p.m.;

e. Senior Talent Show is May 9th in the auditiorium at 1:45 p.m.;

f. May 9th is the 3.5 breakfast;

g. May 10th is the principals' breakfast;

h. Special Olympics will be held here at the high school track on May 11th;

i. High School Academic Awards will be held on May 16th in the auditorium at 7:00 p.m.;

j. Seniors last day is May 17th;

k. Graduation is May 26th at 2:00 p.m.;

l. Last day for all students is May 30th and that will be a wrap for the 2018-201 school year!

 

     FINANCIAL ITEMS 

22-19  Motion by Mr. Schuster, seconded by Mr. Stoner to approve the following financial items:

1. The minutes from the March regular meeting and April special meeting were approved.

2. The monthly financial report for March 2019 was presented.

3. Approved the Bond Resolution authorizing the issuance of bonds in the amount of not to exceed $55,950,000 for the purpose of constructing and improving school facilities (See Attachment A)

4. Approved the Post-Issuance Compliance Policy approving a written Post-Issuance Compliance Policy in connection with the issusance of tax-exempt and tax-preferred obligations by the School District. (See Attachment A, B & Exhibit A)

Resignation: Accepted the following resignation of Emily Santamaria, High School Spanish, effective at the end of 2018-2019 school year.

Employment: Approved the employment of Sandy LaLiberte as substitute teacher for the remainder of the 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 school years.

Salary Adjustments: Approved the salary adjustments for:

Substitute List: Approved the revised Lexington substitute list dated 03-27-2019 as presented by MOESC.

Bus Bid: Approved the purchase of two (2) multi-purpose vehicles ((passenger shuttles) from Cardinal Bus Sales at a cost of $89,400 ($44,700 each) and the purchase of one (1) Special Education bus from Mansfield Truck Sales & Service at a cost of $86, 916.

Orchestra Pit Musicians: Approved payment to the following orchestra pit musicians. Payments to be made from the Drama Clud account:

Richland Area Chamber of Commerce:  Approved the continued membership in the Richland Area Chamber of Commerce for the period of May 2019 through May 2020 at a cost of $199.00.

Resolution - Third Grade Assessments: Approved the adoption of the Resolution notifying the Ohio Department of Education of our district's intent to administer the Third Grde English Language Arts and Third Grade Mathematics assessments in paper format for the 2019-2020 school year.

Certificate Section 5705.412, Ohio Revised Code

It is hereby certified that the Lexington Local School District Board of Education, Richland County, Ohio, has sufficient funds to meet the contract agreement, obligation, payment or expenditure for the above, and has in effect for the remainder of the fiscal year and succeeding fiscal year the authorization to levy taxes which, when combined with the estimated revenue from all other sources available to the district at the time of certification, are sufficient to provide operating revenues necessary to enable the district to operate an adequate educational program on all days set forth in its adopted school calendar for the current fiscal year and for a number of days in the succeeding fiscal year equal to the number of days instruction was or is scheduled for the current fiscal year.
