The Lexington Board of Education met in regular session in the High School Auditorium at 7:00 p.m. on  Wednesday, May 16, 2018.

Mr. Robert Whitney, President, called the meeting to order. Roll was called by the Treasurer.

VISITORS / COMMUNICATIONS / RECOGNITIONS

     

The Board recognized various students in the High School Auditorium, including the following:

Central Elementary

Little Miss Lexington, Valerie D., was recognized for her work creating surgical caps for children in need.  With help from the community, she was able to make and donate 450 surgical caps.

The 4th Grade Leadership Team was recognized for their leadership work throughout Central Elementary. The team introduced themselves and provided the Board with highlights of their various work throughout the school year.

Central Elementary was also recognized for being selected as a Purple Heart Designee for outstanding commitment to serving military students and families.

Western Elementary

Wyatt R., a 3rd grader at Western Elementary, was recognized for his leadership and continued growth as a student and young man. Wyatt is hard working, kind, considerate to others. He is a great friend to his peers and respectful to all adults he encounters at Western.

Morgan C., was recognized for her continued student achievement and positive attitude throughout the school year. Morgan is a constant friendly face at Western, is kind and compassionate, rarely complains, and seeks to make others happy.

Graisen L., was recognized for receiving the State Support Team 7 recognition of Excellence.  Graisen has demonstrated Western Elementary's "Lex Way" Learning through being respectful, responsible, and read to learn in all school areas.  He has a heart for others and cares deeply about his peers and teachers.

The Teacher Team of Connie Pritchard, Stephanie Coffman, Ashley Smith, Chris Kmetz and Jill Williams was recognized for being awarded teh Franklin B. Walter Outstanding Educator Award for their excellent work in providing outstanding contributions to the education of children with disabilities.

Eastern Elementary

The 5th and 6th grade Academic Challenge teams were recognized for their accomplishments throughout the year. The 6th grade team had a team finish first at each competition they entered and qualified for the National competition. The 5th grade team had a team finish in the top 2 of every competition they entered.

Wesley and Connor R., 6th graders at Eastern, were recognized for their work on the "Door Alert Plus" as part of the Invention Competition. The remote light system was created to limit distractions caused by knocking when looking to enter a classroom. The system has provided assistance to students to ensure less distractions furing class time.

Junior High

The Junior High Academic Challenge team was recognized for their achievements throughout the year. In 3 competitions throughout the year, the team finished 1st, 2nd and 1st out of 36 teams.

Maggie S. and Katie S. were recognized for their Spelling Bee accomplishments. Maggie won the Richland County Spelling Bee, the Tri-County Spelling and finished 3rd at the Regional Spelling Bee, qualifying for the National Scripps Spelling Bee for the 2nd consecutive year. Katie finished 2nd overall at the Tri-County Spelling Bee.

High School

Owen P. was recognized for his character and integrity. Recently, a student reported to the office that he had lost $70 in cash at some point in the school day. Luckily for that student, Owen found that $70 on the ground in the student parking lot, and turned the money into the office. Owen noted that he put himself in the position of the other person who lost the money and that he knew it was the right thing to do.

Abby V. was recognized as the outgoing Student Representative to the Board of Education. Abby has done a great job over the past year and has been a welcome addition to the Board. Abby shared that she had a good time as the Student Representative and that it has been a fun experience for her.

Leah B. was recognized for work in the State Governor's Art Show, in which 5 of her pieces received a Regional award andone peice was a State winner. Mr. Ziegelhofer noted that its the first time a student has had all 5 pieces receive a Regional award and added that Lexington actually had 3 student accomplish the feat this year.

Autumn P. was recognized as the winner of the Byron T. Carmean Award, which is an extremely prestigious award presented to a student at Pioneer.

Ajit V. was recognized as a 2018 National Merit Scholar Finalist. His picture is also on display in the high school lobby Wall of Fame to commemorate this accomplishment.

 Mr. Whitney called the meeting to order.

Mr. Whitney welcomed visitors to the meeting and asked if any visitors would like to be recognized.

Mr. Whitney also made available various publications and mailings.

The Board recognized Abigail Vincent as the outgoing Student Representative and introduced Rhiannon Miller as the new Student Representative. Abigial provided an update on Prom, Senior Spirit Week and gradudation. 

      FINANCIAL ITEMS 

23-18   Motion by Mr. Schuster, seconded by Mr. Stoner to approve the following financial items:

1. The minutes from the April regular meeting were approved.

2. The monthly financial report for April 2018 was presented.

3. Approved to pay the invoice from Herff Jones for yearbook services, cost $3,148.54.

4. Approved the 5-year Financial Forecast for FY18 through FY22

Certificate Section 5705.412, Ohio Revised Code 

It is hereby certified that the Lexington Local School District Board of Education, Richland County, Ohio, has sufficient funds to meet the contract agreement, obligation, payment or expenditure for the above, and has in effect for the remainder of the fiscal year and succeeding fiscal year the authorization to levy taxes which, when combined with the estimated revenue from all other sources available to the district at the time of certification, are sufficient to provide operating revenues necessary to enable the district to operate an adequate educational program on all days set forth in its adopted school calendar for the current fiscal year and for a number of days in the succeeding fiscal year equal to the number of day’s instruction was or is scheduled for the current fiscal year.
