GEOMETRY  
 Geometry is a non-weighted, full-year course worth 1 credit.  The course is designed to "learn by doing."  You will learn to use the tools of geometry and technology to perform investigations and discover properties of plane and solid geometric figures.  Concepts in introductory trigonometry will be covered.  A compass, protractor, ruler, graph paper, and a scientific calculator are required.  The computer program "Geometric Sketchpad" will be used.

A. Class Rules and Expectations

  1. Bring materials
    to class (pencil, paper, book, scientific calculator, three-ring binder or sprial notebook, and
    compass.  These are all required
    materials for this class.  Failure to
    bring these materials will result in the loss of a pass.  If you run out of passes, tardies will be
    issued.
  2. No swearing.  (immediate trip to the office)
  3. Do not talk while
    I am talking.  Be ready to start the
    class when the bell rings.
  4. No sitting on the
    desktops, floor, or ledge.  There will be
    a seating chart and you are to remain in your seat.  There will be no wandering around to visit.
  5. No sleeping in
    class.  You should be attentive and your
    head should be off the desk at all times
  6. No reading.  (except your geometry book, of course)
  7. No food(including candy).  Gum and bottled water
    are permitted.  Pop, sports drinks, juice
    are not.
  8. Three hall passes
    per six weeks.
  9. Cover your book.
  10. Purses, bookbags,
    etc. should be on the floor under your desk.
  11. Everyone can
    succeed.  Be consistent with your
    approach towards your schoolwork.  Be
    prepared when you come to class, not only prepared with the materials you will
    need, but with a frame of mind that allows you to do the things you need to do to be successful, such as listening, taking notes, asking questions, and committing yourself to do your very best.   I am here to help you.

B.Homework

  1. Homework
    assignments are a vital part of the learning experience and will be given
    almost daily.  Each checked assignment
    will be worth 5 points.

a.)5 points
(assignment is completed, must copy down problem and show work)

b.)    4 or 3 points
(assignment mostly completed, average effort shown)

c.)     2 or 1 point
(assignment is unsatisfactory, little effort shown)

2.) Each day homework
is late your score will go down 2 points. 
More than 2 days late means no credit.

C. The class of 2015
will be taking the Ohio Graduation Test this spring.  Students are required to pass this test to
receive their high school diploma.  A
good deal of emphasis will be placed on preparing students to take this very
important test.  We will be doing sample
problems throughout the year up until the test.

D. Quizzes

  1. There will be
    about three 40 point quizzes per six weeks.
  2. There will be periodic notebook quizzes.  These will be open note and you will be asked to answer questions using your notes.
  3. A semester and
    final exam will be given.
  4. Quizzes will be
    made up promptly as specified by the student handbook.

Extra Help

  1. I will be available to any student seeking extra help before or after school.

STATISTICS/PROBABILITY
Statistics/Probability is aimed at the student who is preparing for such fields as economics, business, education, psychology, sociology, biology, medicine, math, physical science, or engineering science which now make extensive use of statistics.  This course will include a treatment of random variable, binomial distribution, samplings, estimation theory, statistical methods in determining confidence intervals and significant levels, and hypothesis testing.  (A TI-83 or TI-84 graphing calculator is recommended.)
