Choral Program
Vocal Music at Lexington High School begins with the Eastern 5th/6th Grade Choir under the direction of Melissa Hassmann. The junior high has a Girls' Choir and a Boys' Choir which may join forces when presenting concerts. Lexington High School has three classes of vocal music. The classes are Fire-N-Ice, Chorale and Treble Chorus. Also, at the high school are two ensembles: Triple Trio and A Change of Pace. The junior high and high school vocal music groups are under the direction of Paul A. Dawson with assistance from accompanist Cyndi Kunz.
Fire-N-Ice: This select group has members choosen by audition in the spring of each year. Generally there are 24 singers. The group regularly sings in a show choir style, but also participates in Ohio Music Education Association Solo and Ensemble Adjudicated Event as a Chamber Ensemble. Fire-N-Ice performs for many community groups each year. Fire-N-Ice meets five days a week during the school day.
Chorale: Chorale is a mixed choir and meets during the second period each day. The members of Fire-N-Ice are also members of the Chorale. The Chorale presents three major concerts each year in the high school auditorium. The group also participates in the Ohio Music Education Association Large Group Adjudicated Events. Since 1994, the group has received many superior ratings at both the District and State Adjudicated Events.
Treble Chorus: This group meets during the third period and is for female voices. Primarily freshman girls are members but females from any grade are welcome to be a part of the ensemble. Treble Chorus performs at the three major concerts in the high school auditorium and has participated in the Ohio Music Education Association Large Group Events and Solo and Ensemble Adjudicated Events, receiving many superior ratings over the years.
Triple Trio: This audition group of nine female singers rehearses once or twice a week after school. They perform in the three main concerts and participate in the Ohio Music Education Association Solo and Ensemble Adjudicated Events. This group has consistently received superior ratings in Class A. When asked, this group will perform for community events.
A Change of Pace: A Change of Pace is the men's ensemble. Performances include the high school concerts, Ohio Music Educators Association Solo and Ensemble Adjudicated Event and community events. The group practices two times each week after school and sometimes before school.
Junior High Girls Choir: The girls' choir meets five days a week. Two main performances are required of choir members. Choir members are encouraged to perform in the solo and ensemble adjudicated event held in the spring of each year.
Junior High Boys Choir: The boys' choir meets five days a week. Two main performances in the high school auditorium are required of choir members. Choir members are encouraged to perform in the solo and ensemble adjudicated event held each year in the spring.
